sharjah, uae

Flying over Iran. We watched the tiny screens on the back of the seats in front of us as our pilot flew around Iraqi air space...

well... today was our first full day in sharjah. we are right outside of dubai, about 30 min or so without traffic, except last night at 12pm there was a TON of traffic and it took us almost two hours to get to the hotel. our room is great... we even have a bidet (not even sure how to spell it, let alone use it). but let me just tell you how HOT it is here... note the caps on HOT!

we went for a walk tonight... around 9pm... and i swear it was 100 with the humidity... too hot for me! actually if you were to go stand behind a window air conditioning unit for a few minutes... then you would understand how hot and humid it is here.

we spent part of the afternoon swimming with the kids. the swim suits that some of the women wear look like full body wet suits.... it covers their entire arms and legs... and some wear their head pieces also. our resort is right on the persian gulf... i'm sure it would be an amazingly beautiful sight without the intense humidity causing almost like a fog... just incredibly hazy.

there is an interesting blend of so many cultures here. at times i feel like i'm in arabian nights... and at other times i feel like i'm in a european country. but, you do know that you are in a country of modesty. there is a sign in our room that says -
Dress Code: WEARING REVEALING OUTFITS (I.E. SHORTS, SWIMWEAR) INSIDE ALL RESTAURANT OUTLETS AND LOBBY IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED. (note it is in all caps.)

stinks... since it's 110 DEGREES OUTSIDE!
