I'd give you the moon

I had a great moment with the little guy the other day. It was Memorial Day and we were at the O'Malleys for a cookout. It was dusk and I was walking across the lawn with Owen in my arms and he spotted the almost-full moon up in the sky. It was shining so bright. He pointed at it and said an indecipherable sentence that seemed to mean... "I want that! Give it to me Dad!" This reminded me of the songs and stories I've heard that contain a phrase like "I'd give you the moon if I could" ... and I understood that sentiment for the first time. In that moment I really wished I could reach up, grab the moon and put it in Owen's little hands. So I smiled and said to him, "Yeah buddy, that's the moon! Look how bright! I'd give it to you if I could."
